Burkina Faso R+1 Villa Ducted Inverter HVAC, Smart Zoning & Project Budget Engineering
Bobo Dioulasso Residential Project — From Architectural Drawings to Cooling Load, Airflow, HVAC Equipment, VAV Zoning, Air Distribution and Preliminary Project Budget
This project comes from an actual customer requirement for an R+1 residential villa in Bobo Dioulasso, Burkina Faso. The customer provided architectural drawings and requested YUJU to evaluate a complete ducted inverter HVAC solution rather than simply selecting individual air-conditioning units by room area.
The requirement covers independent HVAC planning for each floor, room-by-room temperature control, supply and return air distribution, proportional motorized dampers, intelligent zoning, and coordination between total active-zone demand and compatible inverter HVAC equipment.
As the project developed, the engineering scope also expanded into preliminary HVAC equipment selection and project material budgeting, allowing the project designer and owner to evaluate the expected HVAC investment before entering the detailed engineering stage.

Actual ground-floor and R+1 architectural drawings supplied by the customer. These drawings provide the basis for room-by-room HVAC load evaluation, airflow planning, zoning and equipment configuration.
2. The Customer Needed a Complete HVAC System — Not Just Air Conditioners
A multi-room villa cannot be properly designed by matching one air-conditioning capacity to total floor area alone.
Different rooms can experience very different cooling loads because of orientation, solar exposure, glazing, roof and wall conditions, occupancy and room use.
The customer therefore required a system capable of controlling individual rooms while maintaining stable operation of the complete ducted HVAC system.
Independent room temperature control + variable room airflow + ducted supply and return air + inverter HVAC equipment capable of responding to changing building demand.
This requirement changes the project from a conventional equipment quotation into a complete HVAC engineering task.
3. Starting from the Customer's Architectural Drawings
YUJU begins the engineering process from the actual architectural layout instead of immediately recommending equipment tonnage.
The customer drawings allow the engineering team to identify the major conditioned spaces, room relationships, floor arrangement, possible equipment locations and available routes for supply and return air.
Typical design inputs include:
- Room dimensions and floor area
- Ceiling height
- Building orientation
- Exterior walls and roof exposure
- Window and glazing conditions
- Building-envelope information
- Occupancy and room use
- Lighting and electrical loads
- Indoor design temperature
- Outdoor climate conditions
- Fresh-air requirements
Where detailed construction information is not yet available, preliminary engineering assumptions can be established for concept design and refined later as the project information becomes more complete.
4. Room-by-Room Cooling Load and Airflow
The key step is to convert every major conditioned room into an individual HVAC design zone.
This means that a bedroom, family lounge or large living area does not automatically receive the same airflow simply because they are connected to the same air handler.
Instead, each room receives an airflow allocation based on its calculated or evaluated cooling requirement.
This room-by-room approach creates the engineering foundation for both duct sizing and intelligent zoning.
5. Floor-by-Floor Cooling Capacity Planning
For this R+1 villa, YUJU evaluated the major conditioned rooms on each floor separately before selecting the preliminary HVAC capacities.
| Floor | Preliminary HVAC Configuration | Application |
| Ground Floor / RDC | Approx. 5 Ton Full-Inverter Cooling-Only System | Living, dining, guest room, entrance and other conditioned zones |
| R+1 | Approx. 4 Ton Full-Inverter Cooling-Only System | Bedrooms, family lounge and associated conditioned zones |
6. AIRFORM HVAC Engineering Workflow
YUJU uses its AIRFORM engineering workflow to organize multi-room project information and connect architectural data with practical HVAC design decisions.

YUJU AIRFORM engineering workflow connects room loads, airflow, duct dimensions, velocity, resistance, external static pressure and equipment selection in one multi-room HVAC design process.
7. Supply & Return Air Distribution Design
After the required airflow for each zone is established, the air-distribution system can be developed.
The engineering scope can include:
- Main supply duct sizing
- Branch duct sizing
- Room airflow allocation
- Duct air velocity
- Critical airflow path evaluation
- Duct resistance and pressure loss
- Required external static pressure
- Supply diffuser selection
- Return-air grille selection
- Supply and return plenums
- Duct insulation
- Air balancing considerations
The objective is not simply to move air through the building. The system must deliver the required airflow while controlling excessive velocity, pressure loss and unnecessary noise.
8. From Conventional Split AC to a Ducted Multi-Zone Concept
The customer's building-services drawings already identify conventional air-conditioning and ventilation positions. These drawings are useful references for understanding the original building concept and available installation conditions.
However, the new requirement is more advanced: the customer wants a ducted inverter HVAC system with centralized air distribution and independent room control.
YUJU therefore evaluates how the original architectural layout can be developed into a coordinated ducted multi-zone HVAC solution.
The customer's original air-conditioning and ventilation drawings provide additional reference for YUJU when developing the proposed ducted multi-zone HVAC solution.
9. Independent Room Variable-Air-Volume Smart Zoning
One of the most important requirements of this Burkina Faso villa project is independent temperature control for individual rooms.
Each major conditioned room can be equipped with its own room controller or temperature sensor.
The controller communicates room demand to the zoning system, which adjusts a proportional motorized damper serving that zone.
When a room requires more cooling, its damper can increase airflow. As the room approaches its temperature setpoint, the airflow can be reduced.
This provides a more flexible alternative to operating every room with one fixed airflow condition.
10. YUJU Air Basic™ Control Architecture
YUJU Air Basic™ is designed to coordinate multiple room zones with ducted HVAC equipment.
Depending on the final project configuration, the system can include:
- Room temperature / humidity controllers
- Independent room setpoints
- 0–10V proportional zone dampers
- PLC-based control logic
- Zone-demand calculation
- Automatic airflow adjustment
- Air-handler enable / disable logic
- Static-pressure monitoring
- Bypass-damper control where required
- Minimum-airflow protection
- Equipment protection logic
- Central HMI or monitoring interface where required
The objective is to make the ducted system respond to changing room demand while maintaining safe and stable airflow through the air handler and duct network.
11. Total Zone Demand & Inverter HVAC Capacity Coordination
Room zoning alone does not solve the complete system-control problem.
If several rooms reduce airflow, the HVAC system must also respond appropriately to the reduced overall building demand.

Compatible Inverter HVAC Capacity Adjustment
The project requirement is for the inverter HVAC system to reduce or increase capacity according to the combined demand of the active rooms.
YUJU can evaluate compatible equipment interfaces such as Modbus, RS485, 0–10V, dry contacts or manufacturer communication gateways when selecting the HVAC platform.
Proposed smart-zoning concept based on the actual R+1 floor plan: individual room controllers, proportional dampers, ducted air distribution, YUJU Air Basic™ and compatible inverter HVAC equipment.
12. Preliminary HVAC Equipment & Material Budget
For many international residential projects, the owner needs to understand the approximate project investment before committing to detailed HVAC engineering.
For this Burkina Faso villa, YUJU therefore prepared a preliminary HVAC equipment and material budget based on the architectural drawings, preliminary system capacity, room zoning requirements and current HVAC material pricing in China.
HVAC Equipment + Room-by-Room VAV Zoning Controls + Ductwork + Insulation + Supply / Return Diffusers + Air-Distribution Accessories
| Budget Category | Preliminary Evaluation Scope |
| HVAC Equipment | Separate cooling-only full-inverter HVAC systems for RDC and R+1 |
| VAV Smart Zoning | Main zoning controller, room control interfaces, proportional motorized dampers and related control hardware |
| Ductwork | Main ducts, branch ducts, fittings, transitions and related installation materials |
| Insulation | Typical thermal insulation for conditioned-air distribution |
| Air Terminals | Supply diffusers, return-air grilles and related air-distribution accessories |
The purpose of this preliminary estimate is not to replace the final quotation. It allows the architect, project designer and owner to evaluate whether the proposed HVAC system is within the expected project investment range.
13. Why Budget Evaluation Comes Before Detailed Engineering
A complete ducted multi-zone HVAC design requires engineering time. Before moving into detailed duct sizing, final airflow schedules, diffuser schedules, controls and technical drawings, it is useful to confirm that the overall project concept is commercially acceptable to the owner.
