R454B Hydronic Air Handler Solutions for the U.S. Market
Some North American residential HVAC applications require a different heating strategy from a conventional heat-pump or electric-heat air handler.
In a hydronic air handler configuration, the refrigeration system provides DX cooling during the cooling season, while a separate hot-water coil provides space heating using hot water supplied by a boiler or water heater.
DX Cooling Coil → ECM Airflow → Hydronic Heating Coil → 24V Controls → RDS Safety → Multi-Position Installation
This architecture is especially relevant to homes and retrofit applications where hydronic heating infrastructure is already available or where the project requires DX cooling and hot-water heating to operate as coordinated but independent thermal systems.
More Than a Standard R454B Air Handler
| System Function | R454B Hydronic Air Handler |
| Cooling | R454B DX evaporator coil matched with the applicable outdoor cooling system |
| Heating | Dedicated hot-water hydronic coil |
| Heating Source | Boiler or water heater |

13. Future HVAC Systems: Scenario-Based Design for Comfort, Energy and Controlled Environments
The future of HVAC is not defined by one product or one efficiency rating. It is increasingly shaped by how heating, cooling, ventilation, humidity control, air quality, lighting, water and energy systems work together in real operating environments.
YUJU approaches future HVAC from a scenario-based engineering perspective: understand the people, building, climate, process and energy conditions first, then configure the environmental system around those requirements.
The objective is not to add more equipment. The objective is to make different systems work together more effectively.
Personalized Comfort
Different rooms, occupants and operating scenarios may require different temperature, humidity, airflow and ventilation conditions. Variable-capacity HVAC, room zoning, proportional dampers and smart sensing can help match system output to actual demand.
Energy & Resource Coordination
Future HVAC can coordinate cooling, heating, dehumidification, domestic hot water, lighting, renewable energy, thermal storage and building controls where project conditions support it. Waste heat from cooling or dehumidification may be evaluated for reheat, hot water or other useful heating loads, while condensate water may be considered for suitable reuse applications.
Climate-Resilient Environmental Systems
Heat waves, high humidity, extreme cold and power limitations create new design requirements. HVAC resilience may involve better building envelopes, efficient equipment, controlled ventilation, energy management, thermal storage and prioritization of critical spaces.
Controlled Environments
The same engineering principles can extend beyond conventional buildings. Agriculture, laboratories, healthcare, data-intensive spaces and other controlled environments may require coordinated temperature, humidity, airflow, filtration and energy management.

14. Fiber-Optic Daylighting & Natural Daylight Integration
Natural daylight can become part of the building environmental strategy when it is collected, transmitted and distributed in a controlled way.
YUJU is developing project-based fiber-optic daylighting concepts for spaces where direct windows or conventional daylight paths are limited. The system can collect sunlight at the roof or exterior, concentrate it into optical fibers and route the light flexibly to one or multiple indoor luminaires.

Daylight Sensor + Artificial Lighting Coordination
↓
Natural Daylight Integrated with Building Climate & Energy Management
Why Fiber-Optic Daylighting?
- Flexible light transmission around building structures and interior walls
- Multi-point distribution from one daylight collection source
- Potential application in basements, corridors and interior rooms
- Can complement artificial lighting during suitable daylight hours
- Can be coordinated with illuminance sensors and smart lighting controls
- Can be evaluated together with shading, solar heat gain and HVAC load
Unlike a rigid daylight tube, optical fiber can follow a more flexible routing path and distribute collected daylight to multiple interior points. Final performance depends on solar conditions, collector design, optical efficiency, fiber length, routing, number of outlets and indoor illuminance requirements.
YUJU does not treat natural daylight as an isolated lighting product. Where appropriate, daylighting can be evaluated together with artificial lighting, shading, solar heat gain, HVAC load and building energy management.
Typical Applications
- Luxury villas and custom homes
- Basements and underground spaces
- Interior rooms without direct exterior windows
- Corridors and circulation spaces
- Hotels and commercial interiors
- Showrooms and experience spaces
- Selected controlled-environment applications
15. Organic Agriculture & Controlled Environment HVAC
As technology, AI and automation continue to improve productivity, people are placing increasing value on something more fundamental: healthier food, cleaner air and a better quality of life.
For agriculture, healthier and higher-quality food begins with a healthier growing environment.
YUJU extends its HVAC engineering, heat pump, air treatment, dehumidification, air distribution, smart control and energy-management capabilities to organic agriculture and Controlled Environment Agriculture (CEA).
Organic agriculture is not created by HVAC alone. Seeds, soil or growing media, nutrition, irrigation, crop protection and farming practices remain essential.
However, excessive heat, high humidity, condensation, stagnant air and unstable day-night conditions can increase environmental stress and disease pressure.
A well-designed environmental-control system can help create more stable growing conditions, reduce some environmentally driven risks and support agricultural production methods that rely less on unnecessary chemical intervention.
The objective is not to create an artificial environment for its own sake. The objective is to create stable conditions that remain as close as practical to the environment in which the crop can grow well.

Stable Growing Environment & Energy Optimization
Different crops, growth stages, planting densities, local climates, greenhouse structures and production methods require different environmental conditions.
For this reason, YUJU does not apply one standard HVAC configuration to every agricultural project.
The environmental system should be customized around actual biological, climatic, operational and energy requirements.
Why Humidity Control Is Different in Agricultural Environments
Agricultural spaces can contain substantial internal moisture loads from plant transpiration, irrigation, growing media and other water sources.
This means cooling capacity alone does not determine whether the growing environment can maintain the required humidity.
Outdoor ventilation can help remove moisture when outdoor air is sufficiently dry. However, under hot and humid outdoor conditions, excessive ventilation may introduce additional moisture and increase both sensible and latent cooling loads.
A more effective strategy is to determine when outdoor air can assist dehumidification and when mechanical moisture removal should take over.
| Environmental Requirement | Typical YUJU Strategy |
| Temperature | Heat pumps, cooling, heating and air-handling systems configured around crop and climate requirements |
| Humidity & Dew Point | Cooling dehumidification, dedicated dehumidification, heat-pump dehumidification and reheat where required |
| Ventilation | Outdoor-air strategies based on indoor and outdoor temperature, humidity and moisture conditions |
| Air Circulation | Airflow organization to reduce stagnant zones, temperature stratification and localized high humidity |
| Environmental Monitoring | Temperature, humidity, dew point, CO₂ and other project-required environmental parameters |
| Energy Optimization | Heat recovery, variable-speed equipment, heat pumps, solar PV coordination, energy storage and EMS-based operating strategies |
Heat Pumps, Dehumidification & Energy Recovery
Heat-pump technology can be particularly useful in agricultural environments where cooling, dehumidification and heating requirements may occur at different times of the day or season.
During cooling and dehumidification, heat rejected by the refrigeration cycle can potentially be recovered for:
- Dehumidification reheat
- Nighttime auxiliary heating
- Process hot water
- Domestic hot water
- Other project-specific agricultural heat requirements
This creates opportunities to coordinate cooling and heating energy instead of treating them as completely separate systems.
Typical Agricultural Applications
- Organic greenhouses
- Vegetable and herb cultivation
- Nurseries and seedling facilities
- Mushroom growing facilities
- Indoor farming
- Plant factories
- Controlled Environment Agriculture (CEA)
- Post-harvest cooling and environmental control
Smart Agricultural Climate Control
Rather than operating ventilation, air conditioning, dehumidification, heat pumps and circulation fans independently, an integrated control system can coordinate the most appropriate operating mode according to real-time environmental conditions.
↓
Smart Controller / EMS
↓
Ventilation / Cooling / Heating / Dehumidification / Reheat / Air Circulation
↓
Stable Agricultural Environment + Lower Energy Consumption
The final system configuration may include heat pumps, AHUs, dehumidifiers, fresh-air equipment, circulation fans, heat recovery, environmental sensors, smart controls, solar integration and energy management according to actual project requirements.
YUJU believes future agricultural competition will increasingly involve not only yield, but also food quality, environmental stability, energy efficiency and production resilience. HVAC and environmental technologies can become an important part of creating healthier and more predictable growing environments.
16. Healthcare, Education & Special Environment HVAC
Some projects require closer control of temperature, humidity, ventilation, air cleanliness and operating reliability.
| Application | Typical HVAC Focus |
| Healthcare | Temperature, humidity, ventilation, filtration and reliable operation |
| Schools | Fresh air, CO₂, IAQ, low noise, smart control and energy efficiency |
| Laboratories | Environmental stability, airflow, ventilation, filtration and control |
| Hotels | Room comfort, PTAC / VRF, fresh air and centralized management |
| Controlled Agriculture | Crop-based temperature, moisture, airflow, ventilation and climate automation |
17. Global Market Adaptation & Compliance
HVAC requirements vary between countries, states and individual projects.
Climate, refrigerant policy, electrical standards, energy-efficiency regulations, product certification and local installation requirements can all affect final equipment selection.
| Market | Typical Considerations |
| North America | R454B, R32 and other applicable low-GWP refrigerant platforms, A2L safety requirements, AHRI certified combinations, ETL / UL requirements, DOE / CCMS compliance, energy efficiency and applicable local codes |
| Florida / Coastal USA | High temperature, humidity, corrosion, roof installation, wind-load and local approval considerations |
| Europe | Low-GWP refrigerants, seasonal efficiency, CE / applicable Ecodesign and project-market requirements |
| Middle East & Africa | High-ambient operation, T3 conditions where required, dust, voltage and equipment durability |
| Southeast Asia | Tropical cooling, high humidity, dehumidification demand, local energy-efficiency requirements, refrigerant regulations, corrosion resistance and voltage conditions |
| Other Markets | Project-specific climate, refrigerant, electrical, certification and installation requirements |
YUJU does not assume that one standard certification package or product configuration applies to every country. Requirements should be confirmed for the exact equipment, project and destination market.
