Custom Cold-Climate Heat Pump Engineering Support for Quebec, Canada
Target SEER2 22+ · HSPF2 IV 10+ · HSPF2 V 8.5–9.0+ · -30°C Evaluation · R454B · OEM / Private Label
An established HVAC contractor in Quebec, Canada approached YUJU to evaluate a long-term OEM / Private Label cold-climate heat pump program for the Canadian residential market.
The objective is not simply to source an existing heat pump. The customer is evaluating a higher-efficiency platform specifically for Quebec, with stronger low-temperature heating performance, North American electrical requirements and certification planning considered from the beginning of product development.
Customized platform feasibility evaluation, target-performance definition, prototype validation planning and certification-path review.

2. From Existing -20°C Platforms to a Customized -30°C Target
YUJU currently has mature low-temperature heat pump platforms developed around customer requirements of approximately -20°C. These platforms provide a proven starting point for low-ambient heating applications, but the latest Quebec requirement is positioned at a higher efficiency and lower ambient target.
At the same time, YUJU is developing an ultra-low-ambient Air-to-Water heat pump platform for the European market, targeting operation around -30°C. This is a hydronic system and requires more complex low-temperature system management, including defrost, water-temperature control, anti-freeze protection and coordinated system control.
The ultra-low-temperature R&D experience from the European hydronic platform provides a useful technical foundation for evaluating a customized -25°C to -30°C residential Split Heat Pump platform for Quebec. Final performance must still be developed, tested and validated specifically for the North American product.
3. Target Efficiency & Low-Ambient Performance
The customer has defined clear target efficiency levels, while asking YUJU's engineering team to determine realistic low-temperature heating performance without sacrificing reliability or manufacturing competitiveness.
| -15°C | Evaluate heating capacity, capacity retention and COP |
| -20°C | Evaluate heating capacity, capacity retention and COP |
| -25°C | Target full heating operation with validated capacity and COP |
| -30°C | Target continued reliable operation with validated capacity and COP |
The project is evaluated by measured product performance, including heating capacity, capacity retention, COP, SEER2 and HSPF2, rather than by minimum operating temperature alone.
4. Engineering Feasibility & Prototype Validation
For a customized Canadian cold-climate platform, the first step is to evaluate whether the target performance can be achieved while balancing energy efficiency, low-temperature reliability and competitive production cost.
The prototype stage is used to obtain actual performance data for the agreed test conditions. Detailed proprietary product architecture, control strategy and engineering design remain part of YUJU's internal development know-how; customer-facing evaluation is based on verified performance results, technical data and certification outcomes.
5. Certification Considered from the Beginning
For the Quebec / Canadian market, certification should be considered during product definition and engineering evaluation rather than after the platform has already been finalized.
Depending on the final configuration and certification route, the program may involve:
- AHRI Certification and AHRI Certified Reference Numbers
- Applicable Canadian safety certification such as CSA, cUL or cETL
- Applicable Canadian efficiency registration
- Technical evaluation for Quebec energy-efficiency / rebate-program eligibility where applicable
- Private Label listing or certification procedures for the customer's own brand and model numbers
YUJU can support the certification process by preparing and providing the required product technical information, test data and supporting documentation for the final validated platform.
6. OEM / Private Label Program
After the technical platform and certification path are confirmed, YUJU can coordinate the corresponding OEM / Private Label program for the Canadian market.
- Customer brand and logo
- Customized model numbers
- Indoor and outdoor unit branding
- Product nameplates
- Customized cartons and packaging
- User manuals
- Warranty documents
- Product specification materials
The final branding and documentation structure is coordinated after the product platform, validation results and certification route have been confirmed.
7. Long-Term Product Program for Canada
The first priority is a single-zone wall-mounted cold-climate heat pump line. After the first platform is validated, the product program can be expanded according to market demand into Multi-Zone, Ducted and Air Handler systems.
For a long-term OEM program, YUJU can also evaluate warranty structure, common spare-parts planning, after-sales technical support, development cost, prototype requirements, certification cost, production lead time, annual-volume expectations and commercial feasibility according to the final product scope.
8. YUJU Engineer Support Process
This project demonstrates how YUJU's Engineer Support service can be used when an overseas customer requires performance beyond an existing standard product. Instead of forcing the market requirement into a fixed catalogue model, the project begins with clearly defined target performance and proceeds through engineering evaluation and validation before commercial production.
