Can Large-Capacity Rooftop HVAC Units Use R32 or R454B Refrigerant?

Large-capacity rooftop HVAC systems are gradually transitioning toward lower-GWP refrigerant platforms.

R32 is already used in selected commercial HVAC platforms and is the refrigerant used in YUJU's 40 Ton Florida rooftop HVAC project.

R454B is also becoming important in the North American HVAC market, particularly as manufacturers develop new equipment platforms designed for lower-GWP refrigerants.

However, refrigerant selection cannot be separated from equipment design.

The final refrigerant platform depends on:

• Applicable certification
• Destination market
• Safety requirements
